Pinwheel Quilt

Pinwheel quilt
I purchased the yellow and blue dot Amy Butler Lotus fabric for another project, but when I received it by mail, I couldn't resist trying a few pinwheel blocks. You'll notice that the double pinwheels and single pinwheels turn two different directions. Although I did not deliberately make them this way, I liked the look and left it alone.

On the back, I used 3 fabrics to highlight the freehand concentric squares quilting. I've admired other quilters use of this machine-quilting technique and wanted to give it a try. In the beginning, I disliked the unevenness of the quilting, but forced myself to keep going. The more quilting I did, the more I liked the results. A final washing and it's a nice baby gift.

In case you're interested in making pinwheel blocks yourself, the Sew,Mama,Sew blog featured pinwheels in their February Quilting Month Block-Along several days after I started this quilt. There are some really beautiful quilts showcased in their blog. The link for double pinwheels is the same one I used to help me get started. Enjoy!
