It's a simple zigzag design, based on purl bee's tutorial. I used 5 inch squares from a Moda "1974" charm pack, and tweaked the measurements to make a larger lap-size quilt. I've been wanting to make a simple zigzag quilt like this since I feel in love with jacquie's blue and red one. The back may be my favorite part of this one, though.

Here's why this is a great beginner quilt:
- It's a nice and simple design anyone will love.
- You can practice efficient chain piecing and accurate seams. Be careful to pin the pieces to match up your corners. It's the hardest part of this design, but you'll run across it often in quilting and you can only improve with practice.
- It's affordable. Use scrap squares or a $7 charm pack, add 2 yards of white (or your favorite solid) and 2 yards for backing and binding. The fabrics for this project cost me under $25.
I love the aqua and red zigzag so much, that a quilt in these colors may be in my future.
