New Year's Resolution #1...check.

With the help of Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'N Bitch, I taught myself beginner's knitting in January. It's a start, at least. I find it meditative and a useful thing to do in quiet moments, like my enjoyment in hand-binding a quilt. I knit the first three projects in the book to master the basics:

1. Go-Go Garter Stitch Scarf (not my favorite, but good practice)

2. Ribbed-for-Her-Pleasure Scarf (shortened length and added a slip-through opening)

3. mini Kitchy Kerchief (schnauzer size)

But I'm most proud of these:

Learning to Knit

Toast, finished
Pattern: Toast, from A Friend to Knit With.

Yarn: Rowan Classic Cashsoft Aran

Finished during the Super Bowl and I love them. Easy pattern. Functional and fashionable. Now, I can wear all those 3/4 length sweaters in the dead of February. I might need some Toasty too.

I think I'm going to like knitting.

Super cute - i hope you don't give up quilting all together!...and quit cutting off your head!

Yay! I just learned to knit too and already I'm addicted. I want to make so many things but I'm just not that fast. I love those warmers, I really might have to give that pattern a try.

I hope your knitting doesn't take over your quilting. I have also just learned to knit and I'm very impressed with your knitting so far. Love the Ribbed scarf.

Your knitting looks wonderful! I tried the other year to learn, but we were not a good match!

This is such a great idea....I have three daughters who all are very close to being 6 feet tall and they have their father's long arms and legs so what a great idea for the many sweaters and jackets that don't quite cover those wrist bones. Plus it looks a lot easier than knitting soxes and having to keep track of where you are. I like things that I can knit while watching TV. Thanks! Buy the way Knitting never replaces quilting it just gives us a more transportable craft.

If you find you need more than a book and have an opportunity, it's worth checking out knittinghelp.com where there are demo videos of all kinds of knitting. She also demos both Continental and English methods. I'm sure she must be sporting the camera on her forhead!
