Pattern: French Press Felted Slippers by Melynda Bernardi, $7
Yarn: Paton's Classic Wool, Currant, 1.25 skeins
Needle: US 15

I knitted these in one afternoon, seamed them together and felted the next morning. Two days later after a good air dry, my feet were cozy and warm. I hope to make some in grey for the fall.

Wonderful slippers.
So they are the same slippers? Explain felting. It has always interested me. I don't know how to knit or crochet, so I won't be doing anytime soon, but they look awesome!
Neese Family, yep, same slippers. Felting wool is what happens when you accidentally wash a wool sweater and it shrinks up. In knitting you can purposely felt wool to get a desired finish. These slippers are knit way too big, washed in the machine to turn out just the right size. Thanks!
the slippers are great! i wish my knitting skill was up to par to make something that cute. i LOVE them!
LOVE the color! I just found your blog but this is perfect timing. I started making some French Press slippers about a month ago and stopped when I got stuck.
Although my gauge swatch was perfect, the bottoms of the slippers seemed to be plenty long, but not much wider than the normal width of my foot. Is that correct? I'm afraid they'll felt up the right length but too skinny.
Did you notice this happening with yours? I'd appreciate any advice you have :)
Hi Janelle, I can't remember exactly, but I do think they seemed longer than they were wider. (Which makes since with the way the stitches will have to shrink/felt up.) After one wash, I was able to shape them my foot. It was my first felt project so I was very skeptical, but they came out just fine. If you're getting the right guage, I'd say, go for it!
Awesome, thanks so much! I will give it a try and see what happens.
