Welcoming Addison

Our new niece, Addison, was born last week. We can't wait to meet her! When we found out her gender in May, I wanted to make something that would coordinate with her room's decor. My sister-in-law was planning pinks and browns and polkadots. Inspiration came from muse75's quilt, kliebean's quilt and emptybobbin's quilt on flickr.

Baby Quilt

After auditioning several shades of solid browns and pinks, I paired it down to 3 colors. The binding, backing and monogram is a Joel Dewberry circle print in pink. I diamond quilted the blanket with thick hot pink thread before applying the circles, which I made using Anna Maria Horner's directions for Super Circles. To each circle I added thin batting and double-sided fusing then sewed them onto the quilt with a zigzag stitch. Initially the circles were just right, but after the quilt was washed, the batting and fabric was much looser and not exactly perfect. If I had it to do it over again, I would use only fusible interfacing, like I did with the letters that I added in the last step. They stayed much firmer, even after washing. Somehow, I don't think the baby will mind. The size is about 42" x 55".

And it wouldn't be complete without an elephant for Addison and her big brother, too.
