My candy-corn and Denyse Schmidt-inspired scrap quilt. A big thanks to AmandaJean and Lera for the inspiration and motivation to use up the extra yellow and orange strips that were cut for my Yellow Brick Road quilt! Once the idea hit me to make a strip pieced quilt like Anina's and daisy.chain's, I dove in. I started piecing on a Saturday afternoon and finished piecing the back on Monday.
I did not use templates, since my strips were already cut into different widths; instead, I sewed the strips offset, then trimmed seam allowances, and finally squared each panel before sewing them together. The only non-scrap materials are an additional 1/4 yard of Kona Snow and the batting. The tiny scraps on the back are cuttings from squaring up the earlier quilt. Even the burnt orange thread was leftover. It measures 42"x54" (my newly determined perfect size for a lap quilt).

I spiced up the quilting with oblong meandering. I think it fits the quilt a little better, especially since the orange thread draws attention. This quilting was a bit more difficult, and believe me, there were plenty of stops to pick out stitches that didn't pass muster.

It was purely fun to make! Check out the other festive entries in the flickr group.
