Chesnut Hill strip quilt

Has it really been more than a month since I sewed anything? Everytime we have guests, my sewing area goes back in the closet. For several weeks after our guests left, this quilt sat around waiting for the binding to be hand-sewn (and Mom even did 1/3 of it during her stay). I wasn't very motivated to finish it. Finally, a couple of Yankees games later, and it's at last ready for show.

I bought the Joel Dewberry Chesnut Hill fabric last year for a steal at $4/yard. I really love the ochre/brown Chestnut branches. Soon after I finished this favorite quilt, I decided to try the same pattern with a more orderly design. All the blocks are exactly the same. They are put together in different directions to get the two sets of boxes.

The top sat unfinished until March, when I put together a backing from the remaining fabric. The binding is pieced in alternating stripes and spheres. It's quilted in a very wide all over meander. It measures about 50" x 70".

Now that it's done, it's time to let the sewing machine emerge from storage.

I love this quilt, honestly, it is beautiful. I love the colors. I have some Joel D. fabrics but don't know what to do with them!

Wow, that is a pretty quilt! Great job on it. So, I am the same way when we have guests. I don’t have a sewing room, I use my kitchen table (which is big at least) Most of the time we push my quilting stuff out of the way to have dinner, but if we have guests it all gets put away, and it usually takes me a week or two to get it out again. What are you working on next?? :)

I have to say I was drawn to your blog from another because of your blog's name, and we put our sweet dog down this eve.

So I'm looking for some escape...

I love how the squares are cut off on the side of this quilt, and the cheap skate in me loves $4 yard fabric!
