Mom: avid basket weaver, quilter and crafter. This intricate bread basket is the latest gift I received from her.

Another of my favorite things she's made is this chenille scarf. It feels so chic.

Maternal grandmother: talented sewer of clothing and quilts. She taught me her trade in my teens. It occurs to me that I don't have anything she made in my house, but I have the next best thing...her cherished sewing machine.
Great-grandmother: crochet matron. I always remember her with yarn and hooks, and this is the afghan she made me.

Paternal grandmother: not much of a crafter, but I do have some early quilt blocks she made with fabrics from the 40's and 50's. I took this large hand-pieced postage stamp quilt block and turned it into a small quilt.

Step-grandmother: needlepoint manic. She wasn't much of crafter until the last decade or so of her life. Then, she took up needlepoint and stitched until she was 'cross-eyed', as she'd probably put it. All her children and grandchildren now have a piece to remember her by. This cottage is mine.

Step-mother: cross-stitch queen. I don't have it with me, but she has made the most beautiful personalized Christmas stockings for each of us, eight now and counting. I truly admire her patience as these take a year or more to complete and each one has details tailored to us.
What a blessing to have been taught how important a creative outlet can be in one's life by all these talented women...Happy Mother's Day to you mothers and much thanks and appreciation to mine!
