It's been a while, but the projects I've been working on are gifts, so I'll save updates for later.
However, I did make a new tote this week. Have you seen Pink Chalk Studio's Mail Sack pattern? I began reading Kathy's blog when I saw her colored pencil roll featured in Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts. She has a great sense of creativity and color. I was saving leftover Joel Dewberry fabrics from my orange bird quilt and linen to make a tote for myself. When I saw the Mail Sack, particularly this beauty made by alissaravelry on flickr, I knew exactly which pattern to order. The directions are very clear and there is a smaller size pattern included too.
When all was done, the plain linen needed a spark more, so I made a fabric flower based on Wisecraft's tutorial. The flower was fun to make and such a pretty way to use favorite scraps.
Voila!
I love it and you'll definitely be seeing this pattern again. Although I'm not a matchy person, admittedly, my checkbook cover is a perfect match.
Also, I finally found a new even feed/walking foot. I paid up for this version's all-metal working parts. My last one was $20, generic, and the plastic parts broke after just 2 months. If the new one lasts as long as I hope, it will save me money in the long-run. It's working well so far, still I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've loved this bag from the first day she revealed it. How hard is it for a beginning bag maker? I would so love to make this, but I've never made any kind of bag before.
The pattern is very straightforward and and simpler than it looks. I had only made a simple tote bag before, and I was impressed how well this one turned out. I even got stopped in the grocery store today by a woman asking where I got it. There are good instructions on how to tackle the zipper pocket, but I simply added another plain pocket instead. Go for it!
Thank you so much for including a mention of the bag I made in your blog!! Kathy's pattern is really so wonderful. I just ordered more of that Joel Dewberry Ginseng for another one for my sister. And I anticipate making the small one again... the small version works perfectly as an over the shoulder (rather than all the way around the body) smaller purse. Anyhow - just wanted to say thanks for your compliment!!
It looks great, the flower is the perfect addition. I don't think I commented but your bed quilt is stunning! I am amazed every time I see it. You do such beautiful work. You are so good with color and shapes/lines. You should really be proud of your quilting skills!
Your DJ locks look great as well. I myself need to do the big catch up. Amazing how time just flies by sometimes. Thanks so much for sharing all your beautiful work, it is very inspiring! Love Stacy
