Fresh Cut Quilt

It's finished and on our bed!

The pattern and piecing: see previous posts - Quilt in Progress, Progress on Fresh Cut quilt and Quilt update

The quilting: Channel quilting (i.e., quilted in rows) 1" apart and divided into four sections. Two opposite corners are half-rectangles and the others are diagonal lines from the center out. After marking the first line, I used the guide bar on my walking/feeder foot to quilt the rest evenly. I worked each section one day at a time and it made a big difference with the amount of fabric I had to push through the sewing machine.

The binding: Machine sewn, instead of hand sewing the back as originally planned. When I tried this on my first quilt, it was a disaster. The instructions had said to stitch in the ditch on the top side of the quilt's binding, but in many places the back binding did not catch or was uneven.

This time, after sewing the front, I turned the quilt over and top stiched right along the edge of the back binding. You can see a stitch line just next to the binding on the front side. It looks even on both sides and should be durable for the many washings it will endure.

One disappointment, as I was finishing the last few rows of quilting, a plastic bolt on my generic walking foot broke. At least it lasted up to that point, but I only used the foot for 2 small and 2 large quilts. Has anyone else had this problem or can you recommend a good replacement brand? Thanks!
